The Rail Management System (RMS) is a Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system developed for BHP's Iron Ore Railway in the Pilbara. Mage Consulting has been supporting Alstom with the safety assurance of this project since 2022. We have:

Mage Consulting has been responsible for the leadership of the safety assurance and accreditation workstream for the introduction of the Next Generation Tram (NGT / G Class) on behalf of the operator, Yarra Trams. We have been responsible for leading and coordinating the development of Safety Cases for various stage gates as well as managing the interaction with the regulator (ONRSR).

Mage is participating in the QTMP project via Andrew Engineering on the delivery of 11 Specialist Equipment packages to the Ormeau Maintenance Depot which will be the home of a fleet containing 65 new EMUs.
This includes equipment such as the Train Body Wash, Depot Personal Protection Equipment (DDPS) and the Bogie Overhaul Shop.
We have led the RAM, Safety, Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and Obsolescence Management activities for the Specialist Equipment.

Mage is participating ARTC Train Management and Control System (TMACS) Electronic Authority (EA) Program as the Independent Verifier to provide an independent, third line of defence assessment of selected TMACS EA Program activities to ensure ARTC is meeting its obligations under the Safety Management System (SMS) and relevant ARTC procedures.

We conducted an independent review of the functional safety assessment undertaken by Arup for the Adelaide St Tunnel extension of the Brisbane Metro. Our independent review of the methodology and assessment undertaken was crucial in aligning the expectations between Arup and the end client.

As 4Tel transitions ARTC’s T2K corridor to digital train order working, Mage Consulting provides the critical safety oversight. We are conducting the Functional Safety Assessment (FSA) for the integrating SIL2 GPS Watchdog, ensuring all modifications comply with IEC 61508 to maintain the highest levels of system integrity.

BHP is currently delivering the Rail Technology Programme (RTP) which is a significant upgrade to the rail control and other associated rail management systems for the Iron Ore Railway in the Pilbara.
Mage has been supporting in Safety Engineering since 2024 predominantly to update and manage the RTP Hazard Log and the BHP Hazard Tracking System (HTS).

Mage provided the safety assurance team and was responsible for all safety assurance deliverables for the development of a Battery Electric Locomotive (BEL). This included both rolling stock integration and several sub-systems including the onboard traction battery system.

We provided safety assurance services for the Through Life Support (TLS) phase of the High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) at their Pakenham East Depot.
This engagement was predominantly focused on assuring engineering changes that were being implemented to the HCMTs.

We were responsible for finalising the safety assurance documentation for the Provisional Acceptance of Downer's Light Service Facility (LSF) for the HCMT fleet. This involved the completion of the project's Hazard Log and Safety Assurance Report.
